Okay, look --- if anyone out there in The Lead Pipe reading public is in Kansas City anytime soon, make it a point to stop by Knuckleheads Saloon, a honkey tonk/blues/country bar that has been voted as the Best Blues Bar in the Nation by the American Blues Association.
I can't say enough good things about the place. From the $3 charge for PBR 24 oz. to the eight hour free Saturday afternoon jam session to the friendly people and the way in which you can wander to and fro uninhibited both outside and inside as you take in all the framed photographs and listen to the eclectic array of instruments both traditional and new --- a great time all around.
The place used to be a biker bar, and the bikers still keep coming. And then some. I've always found the myth of biker bars being a nasty zone to be just that --- a myth. This place confirms it. They're the nicest people --- down to earth and ready for raunch of laughter.
You meet some really fantastic people here. I started a conversation with Mo Paul, a wheelchair- bound man of a hefty weight, sunglassed, sporting crazy mop hair and a beard. He played a harp like he was eating contest pie with his hands behind his back. Among other things. I may even take him up on harp lessons if I ever find some extra money.
Anyhow, get down to this place if you're in town. If you're needing someone to tag along, you know who to ask.
